Could you handle more of your pet's grooming at home, on your own time?

Regular grooming appointments can add up. Then there is finding a suitable time, getting your pet there, waiting, and bringing them home.

For around the cost of fewer than two typical full-grooming sessions for some pets in Singapore, you could have your own grooming system at home.

That does not mean you will never need a professional groomer again. But for the routine grooming you can comfortably handle yourself, you can do it when it suits you, without making another appointment.

And perhaps the nicest part?

Grooming can become more than another appointment on your calendar. It can become time spent caring for and bonding with your pet.

The Neakasa S1 Pro combines grooming tools with a vacuum collection system, helping collect loose fur as you brush, de-shed and trim.

Seven tools. Here’s what they’re actually for.

Rather than simply calling it “7-in-1”, QUALORA thinks it is more useful to explain what you are getting.

Grooming Brush — For routine brushing and removing loose hair.

De-shedding Brush — Designed to help remove loose undercoat and shedding fur.

Electric Clipper — For trimming areas of your pet’s coat that you are comfortable maintaining yourself.

Paw Trimmer — For more detailed areas such as around the paws.

Nail Grinder — For routine nail maintenance when used appropriately and carefully.

Crevice Tool — For collecting loose pet hair from narrower areas around your home.

Hair-Remover Roller — For picking up pet hair from surfaces.

It is one system designed around the grooming process and the fur that comes with it.

But is it difficult to groom your pet yourself?

That is probably one of the first questions to ask before buying a home grooming system.

User feedback we reviewed was generally positive about the S1 Pro’s ease of use, including feedback from people relatively new to grooming at home.

The basic idea is simple: choose the appropriate grooming attachment, work through your pet’s coat, and use the vacuum system to collect loose fur.

Your pet may need more time to learn how to use it than you do.

Some pets tolerate the sound quickly. Others may need to be introduced gradually.

For compatible brushing tools, the vacuum does not have to run continuously. You can brush first and activate suction to remove accumulated fur from the tool.

Groom at home. On your own time. With less loose fur to clean up afterwards.

The problem with grooming at home isn't only the grooming

It's also everything that comes afterwards.

Loose fur on the floor.

Fur on your clothes.

Fur around the grooming area.

And another round of cleaning when you're finished.

The S1 Pro combines grooming and fur collection into the same workflow. Instead of trimming or brushing first and cleaning everything afterwards, loose fur can be collected while you work.

Its 3-litre dust container also means the collected fur stays contained until you're ready to empty it.

Three suction levels give you more control

Not every grooming task or pet needs the same amount of suction.

The S1 Pro provides adjustable suction, with the manufacturer specifying suction of up to 11,000Pa.

That allows you to choose an appropriate setting rather than treating every grooming session the same way.

ABOUT THE “0dB” CLAIM

You may see “0dB grooming” used in some marketing for this product. That does not mean the vacuum operates at 0dB.

The manufacturer currently specifies minimum operating noise of approximately 50dB. The separate “0dB” reference relates to grooming when the vacuum fan is not operating.

We think that’s worth explaining clearly.

Will this replace your professional groomer?

Not necessarily, and it doesn’t have to.

Professional groomers have skills and experience that a machine cannot replace.

Complicated cuts, heavily matted coats and grooming situations you’re not comfortable handling yourself may still be better left to a professional.

The S1 Pro makes more sense for people who want to handle more of their routine grooming at home.

• Brushing

• De-shedding

• Light trimming

• Routine coat maintenance

• Collecting the loose fur that comes with it

If doing those jobs yourself means fewer unnecessary trips to the groomer, that’s where owning your own grooming system may start making sense.

Who might find the S1 Pro useful?

It may be worth considering if you're looking for:

• regular brushing or de-shedding for your dog or cat

• a way to handle more routine grooming at home

• less loose fur around your grooming area

• several grooming tools in one system

• a setup for a pet that sheds frequently

• time to introduce your pet gradually to the equipment

It may not be the right choice if you're expecting a machine to replace professional grooming skills completely, or if your pet cannot comfortably tolerate powered grooming equipment.

Before your first grooming session

Don't make your pet's first experience a full grooming session.

Let them see and investigate the equipment first.

Introduce the grooming tools.

Start with short sessions.

Introduce the vacuum sound gradually rather than forcing your pet to tolerate it immediately.

Reward calm behaviour and give your pet breaks when needed.

The goal isn't simply to finish the grooming. It's to make future grooming easier for both of you.
